Hello Fritz_S,
I ha d quite a bit of trouble with the last bit of german so here are my plans /story for the TD(I) in english. I was driving a rocky 2.8TDI but due to our goverment changing tax on me it had to go. I wanted a diesel so I found the charade. The turbo version was of course more attractive as it's got bit power than the non turbo. So I got one. First thing that went wrong was the cylinder head, cracked between the valves. A refurb head (650,- !) was duely fitted and it was sorted. I did have a bit of trouble with it pulling a bit to the left so I had the alignment checked. The result was that the car was 1 cm shorter on the left side compaired to the right. So I got a petrol model to put the engine in for litle money with a bad engine in it. Unfortunatly the TD decided to stop cooperating by cracking in the block (head and gasket where fine this time). So I decided to fit a good engine to the petrol and overhaul the TD engine. Block was bored and fitted with liners to standard size. It was skimmed and found it was around 0.07 to 0.1 mm curved. The reason for this is that no oversize pistons could be found. I had to get hold of new standard pistons and piston pins due to wear on both. Turned out to be difficult but found a dealer that had 3 entire lower blocks with pistons and pins !. I got two and also a brand new cylinder head of him. I had changed the turbo on it before (shaft broke clean in half) by a very good one (can't feel the play in it !). At the moment I'm waiting for a oil pump and undersize balance shaft bearings. When they get here from Japan I can start putting it back together. I'm planning on fitting new seals to the gearbox and fitting new rubber parts to the suspension and drives. The body I now have (seccond TD with blown engine) will be freed of the rust devils in the rear arches and re-sprayed grey (now black). I will be installing a GTti intercooler to lower the intake temp. as you had good results with this. Both engines I have did only ±220KKm. Maybe I will put right a seccond engine from the remaining parts as a spare. I will not be importing your's back to Holland as I've no place to put them either, sorry !. Regards, René.
