Sorry bluedog I was writing when I received your answer.
Here some pictures |
The air filter housing is the one we have here in the L251 too.
|
FYI: In Algeria it is called Charade (not Cuore) 2004-2007.

It's a pity that I do not have the operating Manual of my L251.
If I remember correctly, in the technical data section it had data for the EJ-DE engine too. I always wondered why. Now I finally know. I remember that it had different spark Plugs for the different engine types. I'm not sure if the timing belt is different too. Possibly, because the VVT device sits directly at the camshaft wheel (EJ-VE only, of course). But if the camshaft wheels are the same size, then even the timing Belt is the same for the two engine types. If I compare the two Engines on part suppliers online, then I come to the end, that the timing belt is the same. I compared it here (L251): http://www.autoteile-meile.ch/cgi-bi...03&FZGNR=17325 and here (L701): http://www.autoteile-meile.ch/cgi-bi...03&FZGNR=10464 and at the compatibility list, at the bottom of the page if you click on "Details" for a selected part. |
bluedog,
I really appreciate the info you provide us. So precise and accurate. Yes, in fact I have a concern with the engine and wonder if it is preferable to open a new topic or just put it here? |
since the forum is not TOO overcrowded its most likely that you will still get sufficient response even if you put it into this thread.
and the huge advantage would be: you already explained that your l251 - different from the german models - still has an ej-de machine. so hopefully questions/complaints "but owning an l251 you should have an ej-ve engine" might not pop up :D |
Try it here. We can ask to make a new topic out of it, if needed.
But its your choice. The solution in between would be to open a new topic and place a link to this here, so every one gets it, if needed. |
I'm trying to upload on Youtube a video I'd made months ago which would better explain the nature of the engine's noise - but noway, it seems to take an eternity!
The file is 1min, 68MB, MP4, any help please? |
can you convert the file to *.flv? As far as I remarked, that makes the File smaller...
What Resolution does it have? Maybe you don't need a such high resolution. Can you describe that noise, and tell us, in what circumstances it apears? Just in Idle, Only when the car is moving, only when you're braking, or is it only when driving around corners, or can you tell the Direction... just to have a bit more than just a "noise" from the engine to guess what it could be. Normally, one starts worrying only in case an engine makes no noise at all. *g* |
Funny!
I want to explain all with the video jointed. Well, let's go ahead: This noise appears only when I rich the revs needed to upshift to the next gear. E.g. When I shiftup from 1st to 2nd gear at around 30km/h 2nd to 3rd at 45km/h 3rd to 4th at 75km/h I know it would be better if I could give rpms but I don't have the counter (this another topic I want to post regarding the upgrade of the dashbord) but I can say it's likely 3500rpm and above. This noise happens with engine either cold or warm. Moving or just accelerating from the under hood. This noise desappears when idling or reving in law ranges. One thing else, I have a luck of power when I shift to the the 5th gear. The speed stops at 105km/h, or just up very slowly. But if I continue acceleration keeping the 4th gear it can reach +/-140 km/h!! This two problems may be related may be not. |
