Danke
I try to give you an answer as good as I can, but that is better confirmed by others...
As far as I remember, for 1):
Maximum km/h:
1. gear: 40km/h
2nd gear: 80km/h
3rd gear: 120km/h
4th gear: ?
5th gear: ?
This is because I had the automatic Version... It only had four gears and slightly different max speeds (e.g 125 km/h in the 3rd gear).
As an additional Info I can tell you that for L251 EJ-VE with manual transmission, top speed was 160km/h, whereas it was 150km/h with automatic transmission.
But it is common that in the 4th. gear you can get faster on good roads with some patience. 5th gear is for fuel economy and added driving comfort, and to prevent engine damage on the long run, not for top speed.
I do not have any Data for EJ-DE, so just keep that in mind.
To the recommended speed for shifting up, I'm not sure if the manual says anything.
As a rough rule of thumb, you can say, that you can take the speed of the Car and divide it by 10 to get the appropriate gear for an economical and smooth driving without too much noise, and then downshift for acceleration.
Generally, you are teached to switch into 2nd gear after passing trough a car lenghty distance, when you make your driving license in europe. (unless the road is mounting too steeply for that, of course).
But, we had that issue earlier in this tread I think... or was it the one with the Terios?
2) European version doesn't have a Temperature gauge. There's only a warning light, in green as long as the coolant is below 65°C, and a red one to tell you that the engine is too hot and needs to be turned off instantly.
But, as it is not an Airplane, which would need to take off at full power, usually we do not warm up engines. In fact, it is even prohibited by law.
Nevertheless, the green light is exactly there to tell you, that the engine is still near ice cold and you better handle it with great care.
The reasonable and thinking driver even waits longer, because above 65°C coolant and therefore no more green light, still means a fairly cold engine, as coolant warms up much faster than the engine oil and the normal coolant temperature for a warm engine lies somewhere above 80°C.
That means, it is generally recommended to drive smoothly for the first 15km after every cold start of the engine. That recommendation comes from some car manufacturers, as well as from motorist clubs.
