Ej-de 1000c1000cc tik-tik sound.

Hello the ej-de 1000cc when is cold after some hours at parking i can hear tik-tik-tik sound from engine.
After some km the noice disappear.
What is this noise?
Can i solve it.

Bauer_Sucht_Sau 17.04.2020 11:25

Excessive clearance due to cold temperature. This is normal, since the clearances will reduce through high-temperature expansion. This is why it's always best to only drive the vehicle at operating temperature. Driving with a cold engine will reduce engine life through excessive wear.
Just to be sure, why not show us a video?

I post a video of a sound. The video is in the morning after the engine sitting 12hours swithing off.
As you can hear as the engine get hotter the tik-tik sound disappear.

Is it just after a long time (12h) or everytime when the motor is cold?

Bauer_Sucht_Sau 21.04.2020 08:44

I suspect, this could be tappet noise. I would remove the camshaft covers and then measure the valve clearances, while the engine is cold

dmpatanis 21.04.2020 11:25

When the motor is warm the sound disapearing.
This engine have variable cam gear?

dmpatanis 21.04.2020 13:45

With the warm engine no tik-tik sound
If i switch off and on again the engine when its warm the sound is the same.

Zitat:

This engine have variable cam gear?

If it is a EJ-DE, then nothing at all is variable.
If it is a EJ-VE (probable, could not see it right in the Vid, because you didn't really film the view of the camshafts drive side...) then the Valve timing is variable.

Valve clearance is not variable in both types. To correct that, you would have to change shims on the upper end of each valve.

dmpatanis 21.04.2020 21:47

Shims is compatible or only in daihatsu i found it ?

bluedog 22.04.2020 18:58

I don't know. But from what I saw, I guess you'd have to go to the Daihatsu Service Partner to get those.

But: First measure, then go and buy parts, at least, if you don't have to get a complete set. I don't know the details. Never had to do this.
